Photographer's Note

Autumn, almost winter, enters now a stage which is less encouraging even for local trips. Ireland and now UK dominate my TE gallery so it is a good time to reach again into my archives to differentiate my uploads.

One of my best planned vacations which balanced well sightseeing and relax were in Portugal. Portugal is a perfect country for that. I spent one week visiting beautiful rich in history north and then a week on the beaches of Algarve. I tried to differentiate the beach-week as well. The main attraction in the south are beaches surrounded by famous photogenic orange cliffs which stretch both directions from Lagos. The area east from Faro does not have the orange cliffs anymore but it is abundant in sandy beaches. Tavira (in this photo) is one of the towns to visit there. It is mostly famous for Ilha de Tavira (Tavira Island) which is practically a large sandy beach. Tavira Island is just a few hundred metres off the mainland. It is 11 kilometres long and varies between 150 m to 1 km in width.
