Photographer's Note
I've taken this photo on Saint Anthony's day, in the mountain, not far from Mangualde, near Viseu. There's a very old feast that takes place there, near a small church called S. António dos Cabaços. On this day, very early in the morning, most part of the sheperds in the area bring their goats and sheep for the celebrations, because Saint Anthony is their protector. Early in the morning there's a procession and an outdoor mass. Then. the flocks come and they are kept in the shadow under the trees, as it's usually hot. Then, around 04.00 or 05.00 in the afternoon, when it's getting cooler for them, each one of the shepherds brings them to near the chapel. They start from the right side of the chapel and they go around it at least three times, always with the sheperd in front leading them. This way the sheperds are thanking the saint for the protection their animals have received during the last year and they also ask for protection for the next year. After that, they are taken home. On this day, the fields around the church are full of locals who come to make picnics and watch the celebrations. Some of the goats are also decorated on this very special day, as the one we see here.

Oi Anabela,

Bonjour Ana!

Boa reportagem.
