This picture doesn't have the usual quality, but I want to share with you because in a wonderful Convent

The foundation of the convent of Santa Clara in Vila do Conde, date of 1318 on the initiative of the illegitimate son of King Dinis, D. Alfonso Sanchez and his wife D. Teresa Martins, with the aim of gathering daughters of the nobility poorer.

Around the year 1780, widening works are made, including the dormitories that already did not include the number of nuns who had a monastery, only works that would end in 1825, but did not complete the initial project.

With the suppression of religious orders in 1834, the convent was being abandoned, until, by 1900, this building is created the House of Detention and Correction of Porto later Reformatory Vila do Conde, and the convent is delivered the Ministry of Justice.

In 1944, after refurbishing works in the building, the reformatory was delivered to the Salesian Institute, starting to be designated, Professional School of Santa Clara, where young people have vocational courses industrial shoemakers, tailors, carpenters and bookbinders.

The various changes in the social reintegration policy operated after April 25, in addition to changing the name of the institution that is now called, Educational Center of Santa Clara de Vila do Conde, advocate the end of the functioning of this institution in the building of the convent, to be converted into an inn.
