The historic center of Porto city, has developed from a small nucleus located at the Morro da Sé, in which documents a human settlement dating back to the 1st millennium BC
Successive occupations did converge various social and economic interests that were expanding and modifying the city. The historic center of Porto was classified as World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 1996. It is the testimony of the medieval origins of the city, an urban set that in conjunction with the Rio Douro features a picture of rare beauty.
