Photographer's Note

Once the longest metal arch bridge in the world, the Dom Luis i bridge spans the Duoro river from Porto to its neighbor city of Gaia. It is undoubtely Porto's most photographed subject and quite rightly so. The massive 172 span and 44m high bridge was designed by Gustave Eiffel (yes the Gustave Eiffel of the Paris tower) and completed by his apprentice Theophile Seyrig. The bridge was opened in 1886.
While on the lower level cars travers the Duoro, the upper level is reserved for Porto's modern Metro and for walkers. To walk the bridge is quite breathtaking indeed.
