art xávega - is the art of "arrasto".was the art of fishermen´s (in a band of some hundreds of meters from the beach) - she will have been introduced in the Nazaré for the deriving fishing of Ilhavo. The species in the captured ones in bigger amount were the sardine and carapau, to which could come aggregate other species of lesser importance such as mackerels, squids; a variant of xávega, used a much more small boat and a net. The proper boat of xávega, characteristic of the Nazaré, had about 4,60m of length, 2,35m mouth, 0,75m pontal. The morphology of this boat was adjusted to ace local maritime conditions, where the operations of saida entrance and of of the sea are particularly critical (in the Nazaré, and in contrast to other localities, it is said to "entrar ao mar" instead of "sair para o mar"). The caulkers had conceived the boat of xávega of form to adjust it it the caracteristicas of the Nazaré, in particular in that he touches to the nose and the reverse speed: for beyond its deep flat, he had a nose very raised and sharpened to cut to the waves and a reverse speed or poop "cortada" to use to advantage the vacant in the hindrance and to allow to quickly launch the nets to the sea however, today he is different. the boats are well bigger and work´s with a big engine.the morphology of the boats are diferent too.
