Photographer's Note

The Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória is located in Batalha, Portugal. Its construction dates 1386 by King John I of Portugal as a thanksgiving to the Virgin Mary for the victory in Aljubarrota. This photo shows part of the "imperfect" or "unfinished chapels" which started their construction in D.Duarte Reign - The Portals are 8 feet tal of Manueline work with naturalistic elements and corbels and canopies. Flaming Gothic influences. This space was intended to Royal Pantheon of king D.Duarte, but was never completed. UNESCO World Heritage since 2007.
