Photographer's Note

The castle of Sortelha stands over a impressive granite massif, slightly next to the village, and still maintains much of its original structure.
The information about the past of this place is very limited. Some authors suggest an proto-historic origin. What we surely know, and we can date, belongs already to the transition to the Middle Ages, specifically the reign of our second monarch: D. Sancho I. He founded this village between 1210 and 1212. We know that in 1220 the castle was already built, by which is supposed to belong to these early thirteenth century the keep and much of the citadel.
