Photographer's Note

This is a square in Aveiro. It is peaceful and very beautiful in a summer day. The city is situated 68 km to the south of Porto and 58 km north of Coimbra, straddling the "ria" Aveiro and the river Vouga a few kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean.

Hi Daniel. As usual a masterly combination of architectural details, perspective, human presence, colour and light. The patterned paving makes an interesting and attractive lead-line directing the viewer into the main part of the scene where the church makes a very effective focal point. I like the animated atmosphere and the light and shadow contrast. A fine presentation of this agreeable scene from daily life.

Hello Daniel,

The memorable cobblestones of Portugal. I would have recognized the country, but not the city, since Lisbon abounds with similar piazzas. A vertical shot works very well here, accentuating the ground, and of course the church to which it lead. The clear crisp sunlight of Portugal allows such vivid colors and depth of field.

Hello Daniel, I feel as if I am standing in this street, an excellent viewpoint!Everyone just getting on with their lives.It looks a beautiful place.
Excellent light management.
There looks to be a mixture of old and new buildings, but the church looks old and makes a very good focal point.

Hi Daniel,
I have travelled south from Porto through Coimbra and I don't know how could I miss Aveiro which I have seen afterwards so many beautiful photogaphs from.
This one is quite encouraging too.
I like very much those Portuguese pavements -so simple yet always beautiful and impressive.
The buildings around are also stylish and very pretty, great presentation from an intersting angle.
