The cable car takes you from Funchal up to Monte where the palace gardens are lovely. Views from the car are stunning.We could have opted to return to the city by the famous basket run but discretion seemed to be the better part of valour so we opted to return by cable car.

Hello David,
I wouldn't have been troubled to sit inside such a cable car, but "standing outside", like I am now, the view far below gives me a slight feeling of vertigo. It's a well timed shot and I like the silhouettes of the persons inside and their obvious curiosity of what they're seeing.

After the accident in Italy would I become afraid.

Hello David,

I have been in a few of these in my travels. Generally they are very safe. Just this week there was an accident but the brakes had been disabled.

A good one of the cable car and town below. But what is "basket run" - a term I've never heard of. Something a little scary from your comments.

Its a bit difficult to see a cable-car picture after the disaster in Italia's Lago-Maggiore, but truely a nice take with the sea & town houses bellow that makes a focal distance evident.

Hi David,
I made a similar decision. I considered the toboggans but I was not very sure about them and decided to return with the cable car.
The views were stunning but we had a cloudy weather and in Monte even rain so the photos I took from the cable car are quite grey.
