Photographer's Note
Happy
It is fascinating how easily you can convert an unhappy kid into a happy one.
We met that family in one of the villages on the edge of Podlasie. The kids wanted very much to be photographed. Somehow we couldnt refuse. Either me or Rafal (eco) were doing the talking while the other one was photographing.
The most sattisfied was kid's grandma. Of course.

Hi Jerzy.

Extraordinarily beautiful tonality Jerzy - your pp conversion here is just excellent and does full justice to the wonderful observation and composition - really a fantastic shot I cannot say more - fine work!

Oh Jerzy, you amaze me with each shot.
This shot gives even more power than the unhappy one. Emotional too, of course. Composition and subtlety in this one is what makes it good for me. I have to go back to your previous and try to see it again, with this shot in my mind. The previous is a picture of the year for me (and I gave you no points for that, lol)

Wonderful contrasts and a beautiful face. I love the composition and the idea of converting it to black and white. The hands around that barrier are for me the most impressive detail with the eyes. One of the best portrait I have seen of kid until now.

Good point, and kids faces are so expressive, it hard to know what they're really showing. Nice one Grandma's living room here.

I love happy endings and this one really likes one of them. Your previous photo of this same kid had strength in its own and was very compelling. This one has the opposite mood and I must say that it doesn’t lack a strong emotion because of that. I love the tender feel of it. I guess you just not overstretched contrast here and that was a perfect move. The light that emanates from his face is very beautiful and the innocence in his eyes just dreamful. A great portrait Jerzy.

Hi Jerzy,
A great portrait, so alive... The child seems to be really fascinated with either the shooting or the story he was listening. Tomorrow we will see the grandma? ;)
Really good one,

Hi Jerzy
this image is great, but i'd say that the "unhappy" is so strong, very powerful, enhanced by the stronbg pp, and strong contrasts given to the picture..
bravo for both of them

Hi Jurek,
Excitements directs the life of the child. This they decide about his behaviour and the mimicry. Thanks to very complex excitements of children are so variable in the comparatively short time. This child we saw in the earlier picture. One can that to say, that it is somebody otherguess. Yet is the same the child. The good, classical portrait in the quite good realization.
Regards,
J.

Olá J. What a smart post, after the first one. The contrast bettween the two oppositte expressions makes such a funny impact. And again, considering the purpose, the b/w works perfectly here. A superb capture! Those eyes are amazing. Congratulations!

A beautiful black-and-white picture with very good contrasts. Also the allocation of picture and the beautiful face of the child contribute to the fascination of the picture. Greeting, Wolfgang

Hi Jerzy, Hope the grandma will get a few shots of her granddaughter! When looking at the thumbnail, I had this weird weird sense of deja vu, I just KNEW this girl, but could not place her. I love how you managed to show her in such extreme moods (we girls know how to embody them!:-) The composition couldn't be finer and the girl;s eyes glimmer in the light... superb dof and tonal range... what can I say? A beautiful, meaningful portrait!

Hi Jerzy
This photo is really magnificent.
The expression of the little boy is entirety in his glance.
The compo is remarkable of quality with the barrier which disappears behind him.
congrats

Jerzy… My dearest friend Jerzy !
If I'd compliment this photo, I will at the same time show my middle finger to Manny, Maciekda, Gaby, Nygus, Alan, Animesh, Sabyasahi…. and some other, great 'people' photographers, and most painfully for me - to the author of this picture. The photo craftsman I respect tremendously.
Only your pure fascination for this kid, could blind your mind as well as your legendary self control over the final product.
For this picture is as bad as the other one - is good.
Look at it closely now…Faster than the light speed flash lamp' blitz created glassy, artificial eyes inserted into plastic face of a doll. Yes.. a doll, portrayed here on some unspecified background, upon which unrealistic shadows of some iron bars of a fence - created 'extra' effects, disturbing my eyes and, instead of enjoying the main theme, I'm asking myself:
Seemingly, there is no background, so what are these shadows placed upon?? Did you bring her to the studio, with light umbrellas and white bed sheets as a background?
Dear friend…There is one million of children' photos on TE alone. With the 'other ' picture - you left a significant mark of your outstanding professionalism on our psyche…Why THIS then..?
That's my manifesto, born out of passion for people's souls.
Am I some kind of Mefisto…? Perhaps I am!
Oh, well...Even if I am not...Some day I will be, and then watch out for me, guys.
j.g.
Grandma likes the picture?
Hey...My grandma liked even MY picture (or at least what's left visible of me between the freckles)

is nobody going to mention the massive hair or piece of dust in the middle of the shot??
this is a great shot jerzy. not as remarkable as the previous compositoin, but still a good photograph.
i agree with many of george's criticisms though. it is a bit of a let down from the other version of this boy.
compositionally, it still works very well for me.
next time, clean your lens! ;)
