Photographer's Note
May Day may continue...Being closely observed...
If I get any closer, the ashes from his fag would be on my lapels, not his…(:-)))
" You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging personal zest for one.. You cannot help small men by tearing down big men. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot lift the wage-earner by pulling down the wage-payer. You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and independence.
You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.
William Boetcker

Hi
It's important to realise that this was shot in 1979, before the emanicipation of Poland from the Soviet yoke in the 1980's. Lech Wałęsa arguably started a movement, that ultimately led to the collapse of the Soviet Union in the 1990's, & the freeing of all of Eastern Europe. Of course, the US had its finger in the cold war pie as well, with Reagan demanding Russia tear down their wall in Berlin.

Hello George,
I'm confused here. TWO POINTS? ONLY TWO F****** POINTS? What the hell...
This is another superb picture worth for sure more than thousand words. Love everything in there, specially the strong message it delivers. Bravo!
Have a sublime weekend my friend.

The last one... But not the last time I will look at these photos.
Love the quotation of Boetcker. Incredibly true...
So, let me repeat myself again...
Hey! That’s the May Day guy! I know it! I have look at this face (with fascination, I should say!) a long, long time. And quite often. What a face! Except for the butt (!), he seems a bit friendlier on this photo. In fact, I am almost more afraid of the guy in white in the very background! Inconspicuous... They are the worst!
Though I smoked for many years, I was never able to keep my cigarette like that without the help of my fingers (but hey! I was a gracious woman after all!). That and the ashes on the flap! Real smoker!
Thank to that very interesting guy, the photo is now alive. A picture of the fanfare alone would have been boring. Look at those guys so serious, so "organized", so properly aligned! And now, we have that personage coming straight from an old movie, more real though, more alive, than many other portraits we see once in a while...
How close can you get?... Close enough for me! I would not care for smelling his breath! So, I’ll let you do the job George.
Have I said it? Brilliant photo my friend!
Claire
Thanks hey?

Hi George,
You were even better with the old Praktika and a B&W film...
At that time you had to frame and shoot carefully! Not 100 digital pictures to get a good one ;o)
Cheers

Hi George,
Love that last line. "You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves." So true.
That is what I appreciate in emergency NGO's. Then again, always hard to select the moment on which you feel that people could and should do things for themselves...

Trudno go zapomnieć.
Ani kroku dalej...
Brrrr !"
Mimo to i mimo wszystko pozdrawiam - T.
