Photographer's Note

This is a new series of photographs about silesian children. This time we are on a backyard situated in New Bytom - a district of my town. The backyard is like always surrounded with old buildings behind which a view of an old coal mine attracts everyones eye. The mine is a feeder of thousands families for many generations. This backyard was converted onto a football court. The youngsters repair the hoop - devastated by a man whom they stole half a ton of sand to enchance their court - "These are enchantments for the goalkeeper to be safe - he has to jump and catch the ball so he can get hurt" - I was assured by Piotrus. As you can see the court does not have to be full-sized- it is not really important that one half is not symmetrical with the other one and that it is L-shaped in the direction of the garages. It is important that it has two halves, hoops, a team and a ball
