About Poland. Page Eight: Abort Red Bricks
Red bricks are so common in many, mostly industrial regions on Poland. Region around Katowice in particular. For years the red bricks settlements were a symbol of proletariat , traditional way of living, honour, reliability, honesty. Such people used to live there.
Another most common view is a woman looking through the window. Typical, poetic sight in the region.

exactly at the right place, this face, in this environment of bricks, glass and iron.
The only living subject in the frame. Great contrast.
Have a good day.

fajna kompozycja i spoko kolory... szczegolnie te czerwone cegly...
mam pytanie: czy tytul nie powinien byc 'about' zamiast abort? przeciez masz sierie 'about'...?

Hi J.
Excellent POV!!!! The bricks, as I notice there, are very typical in Poland. I like how the line breaks with the typical image of a building from the bottom
Well done!

Hi Jerzy,
What an eye striking composition, excellent pov you got here. With those deep red/brown colours from the brick wall you've created a perfect contrast to the woman in the window.
A very strong and powerfull image...really like it.

Once women waited for their own men looking often by the window. Today wait to be for last perhaps the social allowance. Blackened bricks, dumb witnesses of following history of this place still last unchangeably. There change people and their situation.
The tradition dies under the pressure of the impossibility and the poor rubbish...
Very good, very hard picture and the excellent description.
Pozdrawiam,
J.

I am a sucker for these red bricks... I already told you several times. That's the only thing I love about London and its Architecture. And my love for Poland has grow even more on this. Your compo here is just great. So dynamic. It has a pyramidal quality that I like very much. And that girl bathed with light really belongs there, doesn't she? It wouldn't be the same without her... Really nice this series of yours!

Hey J.
Ive also fallen in love with this POV. Shot at a wide angle, it just looks amazing. The red bricks do the trick here of really framing her well. She has a pleasant face, and importantly, is caught unaware, looking off into the distance, in a day dream perhaps. The red environment is great, very Silesian, very strong.
P.S. check your email J, Im in.

Hello Jerzy! What a shot! Exquisite pov, showing everything so fully and clearly, including the touching embroidered curtains behind this lovely girl looking out of her building. I recognize these houses, from your winter Katowice shots, I recall they were also painted red, weren't they?
In any way, a truly great vantage point that gives a poignant mood and excellent graphic feel too,

Man her face pops from thatw indow almost 3-D like, and again your total mastery of "bricks". I say it again for the umpteenth time but your are the great poet of Polish bricks, J. No one comes close for bringing out the subtle sadness and deep-lined history of these buildings. I was moved by your first shots just as I am by your latest.
You're the best, man.
-F (And YES, I deleted that non-descript snapshot from VN yesterday. Look, Jerzy - no great loss to anyone, ok?)

I love this close upward POV. It almost feels as if the building will fall on us. Of course the girl looking out of the window is a gem. Good work as usual

Niesamowity, nietuzinkowy kadr...czysty i przyciagający uwagę.

Hello Jerzy
Amazing POV..the wide angle effect is amazing with the tapring effect towards the top. The brick colours do help in bringing out the lady & the window strongly. Very very strong & innovative composition.

I think this would work equally well in B&W - a great composition/pov J - the way these bricks have aged against the freshness of her face is striking.

Bricks a' la sauté!
One of Jerzy Bucki 'spécialités de la maison!!
From now on if you ask someone: How do you perceive Silesia's region of Poland, the answer inevitably will be...
Brick houses !!!!
Red bricks, black bricks, dirty bricks...
Most wonderful bricks anywhere!
And they say the ancient Romans knew how to use the bricks...
What do they know?
j.
PS: To zdjecie jest 'gladkie', Jerzy.
Dlaczego to zdjecie jest 'gladkie'?
Gladkie sa cegly i gladka jest twarz dziewczyny.
Et tu Brute??

Jerzy
I browsed through your gallery and was impressed with your work especially those capturing the daily lives of people. So many of them are impressive in their own way and it was difficult for me to chose the first one for my first critique to your site. I decided on this one as it had a different POV from most of your other pics.
First a interesting note on the red bricks. We also 'used' to use red bricks here in our houses many years ago but now normally you see grey ones all plastered up and one do not get to appreciate the red ones anymore. You pic has shown how the bricks has weathered the natural elements and how it has aged gracefully.
A excellent touch to have the woman looking out the window. I wonder if you know her personally otherwise it was very kind of her for her contribution as I am sure she is aware that you are there. I wonder if she has long hair as this shot reminds me also of the fairy tale of Rapunzel with the long hair imprisoned in a castle by a wicket dwarf. :-) TFS Andre
