Unbelievable to think, but this is the Baltic sea last year. I can't remember the last time that the sea in the Bay of Gdansk froze like this. The ice was extremely thick, because among the various foot prints, bike prints, etc in the ice, there were also a few tire tracks... These two guys were hacking away to cast their lines, and I just caught the moment of breaking through.

A very minimalist picture, so I am curious about your reaction.

very basic but powerful..moving to the right gets the sun away from the central postion.
just the right lighting to suggest the cold and hardness of the day.

Seeing the thumbnail I thought the two guys were a kind of small boat. Wow, the sea is frozen! Quite impressive scene. And all this empty space all around. I just wanted things not so centered, I mean the sun and the horizon. But only shooting it again from another angle :-), an edition won't work here, as I wouldn't crop the cold sea neither the sun. It's an impressive shot, anyway.

I like the place of the subject in the wide composition,it gives more loneliness to this pic.

What a very effective simplistic shot Piotr! Having the sun centered, but the fishermen off to the right works well. Also having captured so much of the ice, all the footprints and lines create visual movement.

Great photo. Maybe a different angle would have been nice (having the same image, but the men facing the left instead of right). I've done a workshpo to show you what I mean. Have a look...

No coz, rzeczywiscie bardzo uproszczona sceneria i moze wlasnie dzieki temu bardzo wymowna i wciagajaca w zadume. Ci faceci tam sa zdeterminowani aby zaspokoic glod a slonce z trudem utrzymuje sie na horyzontem, jakby za chwile mialo rabnac o lod i przekoziolkowac sie. Ja mysle, ze jedynie te chmury trzymaja je jeszcze jako tako przy zyciu.
Uzyskales bardzo ciekawy efekt zamiany bieli lodu w szarosc dnia.
