Photographer's Note

The ORP "Błyskawica" covered a distance of 150 000 nautical miles during her WWII odyssey, escorted 83 convoys, participated in 108 patrols and operations, the outcome of which were two enemy surface ships and two merchant vessels destroyed and sunk, six ships damaged, three submarines damaged, four aircraft shot down. She holds a Virtuti Militari medal. After the war she came back to Gdynia and served for 20 years as a destroyer. In 1976 she became a museum and nowadays her deck is a place where most important military ceremonies take place. She is the oldest destroyer-class ship in the world and one of not numerous preserved units which took part in the WWII conflict.
