Obligatory photo with Neptune, a photo from Pomorskie, West

Photographer's Note

One of the most photogenic spots in the Gdansk old town is the Neptune Fountain. As much as everybody simply must have a photo taken with the Copernicus in Torun, it is equally imperative to get a photo in front of the Neptune Statue in Gdansk. That means of course that there is not a single moment without people around this fountain. But following the rule “Accept what you cannot change and change what you cannot accept”, I decided to accept that there will be the people in my photos from Gdansk and in fact I decided to change my expectations, trying to capture people with some interesting poses in the foreground. I suppose people photographing each other with a phone is quite a popular theme these days.

Hello Mariusz,
It's not a bad idea to accept people in photos, especially in nice surroundings like this. It's my firm opinion that beautiful buildings or monuments and surrounding persons benefit from each other. Since I would probably have taken a photo like this myself, and expected at least some others to like it, it seems natural to write a comment. It's amusing and very sharp and well exposed. I would have considered cropping it on the sides to get rid of some "body parts", even though that would mean losing small parts of the beautiful buildings. I actually tried it, to see how it would turn out, and I really think there was some improvement.

Beautiful people posed in front of the Neptune fountain, wonderful outcome even as light was not favorable.
Good view from the pavement in the FG up the top of the beautiful facades on the far side.

You chose a nice angle with two couples in foreground.

Hello Mariusz, the white building looks unreal to me, like something off a film set!
I like the rule, 'accept what you can't change...' it has worked for you here. It is an interesting and colourful picture, very much of the age that we are living in with the constant need for selfies, and shots to prove that we have been somewhere!

Hi Mariusz,
Lovely view of this fountain and facades of classic buildings in the background. Varying styles makes that group interesting and the narrowest one really looks squeezed between two others. It's good that you raised your camera above the posing people.

Those façades in the background are so beautiful, I like their different colours and the many fine details, both for the narrow ones and the biggest one in the middle. The fountain stands out well from its white façade and the people posing in front of this lovely view are very well included, too.

I've also uploaded a picture of the Neptune fountain in Gdańsk but then taken at dusk.
I wasn't sure anymore and so I looked at my Polish photos again. Apparently I found it was worth mentioning that the bronze statue is made by a Flemish artist, Peter Husen :)
A little proud of course.
Beautiful architecture in the background. I think the largest building is a meeting place for merchants.
I don't mind people want to take selfies or pictures of their friends in front of a beautiful monument or site. I only hate it when all they do is taking a photo and don't look at the subject in question. And that happens very often.

Gdansk looks like a city not to be missed. I sent from Suwalki to the Masurian Lakes then to Warsaw. Maybe next time if flights ever resume? The architecture is magnificent and reminds me of Krakow or Wroclaw. Tfs!

Hello Mariusz,

This immediately reminded me of my attempts to photograph the Leaning Tower at Pisa! It was impossible to take a photograph without including people pretending to push it over or just taking selfies!
I rather like the inclusion of the models, they show its popularity, thoughI think I would have cropped or cloned out the odd legs!
Your photograph cleverly includes the ornate fencing, the fountain and the delightful buildings, animated by the tourists.
A fine exposure.

Intertesantan pogled i trenutak, dobar tekst ...
Lepa ograda oko fontane i arhitektura u pozadini, dobro pokazano sa lepim bojama, kontrastom, leprspektivom i uhvacenim trenutkom.
Svi se slikaju ispred fontane za uspomenu i dugo secanje.

I can understand your frustration about the tourists, but in china this was even worst. haha.
I remember well this precious corner of the city from the other photos. You got a special view and the personages added a touch of humor.

A wonderful corner of the city and how could it be otherwise, this is a claim so that everyone wants to take a photo in the same place.
I never do it in places like that, because I don't want to share such a precious background with people I don't even know, sometimes there are still people and I look for a different point of focus, even if it's worse, but as a sign of the success of the place it's very good .
A magnificent color, which gives the image a lot of chromatic richness.
Optimal management of lighting and sharpness, with a good perspective.

I don't get this "take my photo here" mentality. In my mind, if I have a photo of a place, I must have been there, one needs no more proof. Why ruin beautiful scenery with my presence? That building behind the fountain is quite elegant.
