Photographer's Note

The tour operators of the Raft Rides on River Dunajec wear white shirts with some additional traditional clothing to work every day. I found it quite impressive. They need special skillset but not less important is their traditional style. I paid attention to it because I have recently changed my job from one where I could wear a T-shirt and jeans every day to another job where there is a dress code described in English as “smart casual”. It practically means for men that you have to wear a shirt with collar and no jeans but more elegant trousers. This is a new challenge for me: I have to remember to have an ironed shirt ready for every morning. Hence less time for TrekEarth nowadays 😊

The photo was taken from a raft during the Raft Ride on River Dunajec. The rafts have a particular design and are technically boats. Each one is operated by two specially trained operators. They are known in Poland for funny stories they tell. The ride takes about 2.5 hours and is most of the time quite gentle. The highlight is the fragment of River Dunajec which is called “Przelom” meaning “Breakthrough”. River makes several sharp 180 degrees twists and turns between quite high rocky Pieniny Mountains. I had a great weather day for the ride. While on the raft the sky was clouded which made the trip more bearable for children and older people I was with. Sadly it was less optimal for photography. This is one of the best moments before the clouds came in. In the back you see the highest peak of Pieniny Mountains which is called “Three Crowns”. At this stretch the river flows along the border of Poland (here straight ahead) and Slovakia (at the back).
