A quick visit back to the "remote farms" theme...

A farmer's life used to be hard and even more so in a remote location like this. It is my guess that this place in the beginning made a living mainly by forestry and hunting, and at the same time had some livestock at least to cover their own needs.

Today life is very different for farmers, for several reasons. While the place we see here had a several hours journey by horse and carriage to the nearest village, this trip today is done by 30 minutes in a car...

I also have to mention that farming in Norway today receive large financial support, as about half the income of a farmer comes from the government!

In spite of this hundreds of farms are abandoned every year, but they are small and often remote farms with no future really. When this happens the land often is taken over by the neighbouring farms that grow bigger and more efficient this way.
