Photographer's Note

No! We haven`t got snow already in Bergen this season. This is a picture showing Bryggen and the central parts of Bergen with Mt. Fløyen and Mt. Ulriken as a backdrop, captured february this year, the same day I captured The red giant and Bryggen. There was some haze in the air this morning, and some of it maybe because of contamination from, among other cars and fuelwood. Bergen's topography makes such pollution increases on very cold days with little or no wind. Then the warm air pushes down the colder air layer further down, and the warm air in higher layers lay like a lid over the city. On the worst days, which are very few through the years, there has been talk of organizing so-called date run, which means that cars with odd and even numbers, respectively, only to run to the center every second day. The local authorities make continuous measurements of air quality as a basis for decisions.
