Photographer's Note

This is a picture that shows the part of the city center which is called Vågsbunnen, in the bottom of the bay "Vågen" that is central to the city. The city of Bergen has its own city song written around 1790 by the former priest and bishop Johan Nordahl Brun. In the song he stands on the top of mount Ulriken (seen in the background here), enjoying the view over the city. In one of the verses of the song he can see "a forest of high masts" from all the ships involved in commerce in the bustling city. Now a days there is a lot of private sailboats, both Norwegian and foreign, visiting the harbour.

The churches are the main church of Bergen, Bergen Domkirke to the left and Korskirken to the right. Both from the 12th century. At the end of the bay the fishmarket has had its place since 1558.

Hope you`ll enjoy the view.
