Photographer's Note

This cow is grazing in a space that is called the Green Heart. It is not a regular Dutch cow, he is imported. I'm not sure where from, but I will find out. In the back you see SnowWorld, an artificial indoor ski resort.

Randstad & the Green Heart
The Netherlands is a densely populated country and most of the population lives in or around the big cities in the western part of the country which is called Randstad. The countries biggest cities are part of it: Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and Amsterdam. Between all of these cities are smaller cities and towns that slowly became bigger. They created this big green buffer zone Green Heart in between, to avoid that Randstad becomes one gigantic uncontrollable city. This green environment cleans the air and is a place for recreation and animals.

Problem now is that the government on the one hand wants to keep the Green Heart intact because of the initial thought behind it, but on the other hand they could really use these good positioned grounds to build on, because lack of it slows down the economy.

Edit: it's a Galloway cow from Scotland.
