Photographer's Note

This was taken at the bird care-centre of our Fauna department at Rotterdam Airport.

Birds hate airports but we love birds! Our own birds that is.
Our birds are trained to chase-away all the other unwanted birds. This small one only finished 1/4 of her training but when she's finished she'll be a lean mean scare-off machine! I don't know what type of bird this is (I will find out and get back on that) but we have about 20 of these, trained by three falconers.

This method of driving away birds is proven very effective. All kinds of birds hang around or pass the airport on different times during the day, all year round. The three falconers know exactly where all the different unwanted bird come from and where they're going. They make sure the birds won't cause danger to the aircrafts and their passengers. Most airports work with sounds and light flares.
