Photographer's Note

This photo was taken at Keukenhof in The Netherlands during this year's tulip festival. I think it is interesting for TrekEarth because while it could be used as another tourist snapshot, I was just struck with a particular impression: We were a couple of Americans living in Germany for a short time, and everything we saw was new and exciting. Here we were, in a flower-nut's paradise, and many locals were almost blind to it; they've seen it their whole life. As we become familiar to things, it's so interesting to see how it loses it shine or sparkle.
Note: Please don't read this as an indictment on the people of The Netherlands! They were so friendly and helpful that it became one of our favorite weekend destinations. I think that the casual feeling we develop over time is one of the universals.
This taught me several things: Now that we are back in The States, I have started watching tourists here to see what they are interested in. It's helped me to see several things for the first time again.

Technical note: Nothing very interesting on this. Unsharp and warm-up a bit, plus some cloning to clean up some details.
