Photographer's Note

Well you asked for it, Jose. You may have the most excotic looking windmill, white against the blue sky, but really do you think you stand a chance.
Rinie has the army ready, Michael brought in the calvery, but I have the biggest:)
Schiedam has always been the center of the ‘jenever’ (Dutch gin) industry. Mills ground grain for the distillers, who distilled malt spirit for the ‘jenever’ industry. For the stilling of jenever large amounts of rye and malt were needed. It is not surprising, therefore, to learn that the ‘Company of Distillers’ owned nineteen stilling mills. Five of these still stand in Schiedam today. They are among the tallest mills in the world. Because these mills were built in the city they needed quite a bit of height to catch sufficient wind. ‘De Vrijheid’ (the Freedom) built in 1785 is one of the two tallest windmills in the world, measuring over 33 meters (99 feet).
