Photographer's Note

The first inhabitants of Scheveninen may have been Anglo Saxon. Other historians favor a Scandinavian origin. Sure is that fishing was the main source of food and income. Beacause of the stormy seas many fisherman's did not return from sea leaving the wifes and children heartbreaked behind. This statue of a lady waiting for the homecoming of husband and maybe children stands on the boulevard of Scheveningen as remenbering for all those hoe did not return.

In our day's Scheveningen is a modern seaside resort with a long sandy beach, an esplanade, a pier, and a lighthouse. The beach is popular for watersports like windsurfing and kiteboarding.
