T for Trombone
The third NightHunt tandem post will be posted Wednesday night, so an ‘interim’ post now. Here’s a little portrait of a trombone player of the Horlepiepers/Plakkers street orchestra, shot last Sunday on the Blaak in Rotterdam, performing during the “Wereld van Witte de With’ festival and the Rotterdam Street Race (1/2 marathon).
T for Trombone is a track from one of my all time fav trombone players J J Johnson from the ‘Blue Trombone’ album, released on Columbia in the wonderful year of 1957 ;-)
I’m a little busy, so I will be slow with the critting, but I’ll catch up soon.
PCS2 tech: cropped, altered the contrast, saturation, curves and levels for the whole pic and some elements separately, USM-ed , added a frame and saved for the web.

Hello Bert, a long time since I've had time to broswe here. You seem to have worked this well, with good anlge for the compo and use of DoF, nice example of the genre.

Hoi Bert,
John.

Nice one, Bert. Fun use of the tilt to give a dynamic aspect, and interesting tight framing around the trumpet player, yet still fitting the passerby's head into the upper right corner. The surprising detail here is the musician's reflection in the lower portion of the trumpet; for that reason I think another variant to present this would be to crop horizontally around the "two faces" of the musician. But of course then you'd lose a great portion of the vivid red shirt and the guy in the corner which might not be that desirable after all. Ehm, good shot.

Hi Bert,
A vivid close-up of this trombone scene, with superb clarity and dynamism. The reflected image in the instrument, the concentration of the musician, and your framing and cropping all combine to produce a most effective and high impact shot. I would say this was captured at the decisive moment.

Hello Bert.
The first thing that caught me was the title, that was a great cut...shame about JJ.
The picture is excellent. The reflection the man really jumps out at me and the way it is stretched along the bell mimics the scene when a trombone players arm is stretched out very far. The tilt is very well done situating the player vertical in the frame, yet having wonderful interest in the background also. Great colors and tones...
Very well done,
Chris

Hi Bert,
A wonderful and very creative photo. You have to look at for a while before you understand why the trombonist is leaning backwards. Very nice light and colors. I love this shot. Have a nice week-end!
Cheers,
Ulf

Hi Bert,
wonderful action portrait of the trombone player. It's nice how you've captured it, because even if is taken from the side, we can still see the artist face in the reflection ;))
Have a nice day,
