Photographer's Note

The 'Rode Steen', the historical heart of Hoorn. On the left the statue of Jan Pietszoon Coen and on the right the facade of the Westfries Museum.
Jan Pieterszoon Coen was the one who organised the islands of Indonesia into one state. Not with the aim of political or religous domination but with the ideal of an economical monopoly on spice trades. The man is fair, but didn't hesitate to order mass killings to achieve his aims. To get a good idea about Coen you should study the history of that time.
The facade of the Westfries Museum is related to Coen because it was te HQ of the VOC Hoorn. The facade is littered with weapons of arms (excuse me if got that wrong). The inside is very interesting as well, despite the fact that they were robbed for about 12m USD of paintings early 2005.
