Molen de Adriaan II

Another photo from the day when the Netherlands was covered by snow. Although in this picture, taken in the afternoon, almost all the snow already had melted away.
It shows another landmark of Haarlem, Molen de Adriaan (Mill the Adriaan), located near the river het Spaarne and close to the city centre.

Molen de Adriaan was rebuilt in 2002 after a fire that had destroyed the mill in 1932. The original mill was built in 1779. Despite of the fact that the citizens of Haarlem collected money to pay for the rebuilding and also the municipality of Haarlem wanted to give a large sum of money (but the province overruled this), it wasn't possible to rebuild the mill in the 1930s.
But exactly 70 years after the fire, in April 2002, a new mill finally could be put into use.
The mill is mainly a tourist attraction -but is also fully functional as a corn-mill- and is an important part of the skyline of Haarlem. Since 2004 the mill has also been an official location of the municipality of Haarlem for weddings.

A picture that I uploaded almost one year ago shows the mill in the early morning: Molen de Adriaan I
