Photographer's Note

A photo of daily life along the canals of Amsterdam. This photo shows the various types of housing people have: some live on boats, others in the goregous "floating houses"/barges (like the one shown in the foreground), and yet others in the houses in the background that line the canals. Some of the "houseboats" can be moved, but others are stationary. The seafaring nature of the Dutch is evident even in daily life, as they are very closely tied to the sea (in both proximity and in history and culture). Travelers visiting for even a short time often note this...

The day I took this photo was rather overcast, and it's not the best quality as I took it with a pocket camera but the colors were still bright.
