Photographer's Note
DE FUNDATIE ("the foundation") is Zwolle's landmark museum. The basis is a 19th century neo-classicist building, then in 2005 Hubert-Jan Henket added "the cloud" (de wolk) on top of it, a giant egg-shaped construction which houses two extra exhibition floors. It is decorated with 55,000 white-blue tiles.
Unlike some other landmark museums, this one actually has good exhibits too. The permanent collection is interesting enough, but the star exhibitions today are a roomful of Tahiti-inspired paintings by Jeroen Krabbe (suprise) and "Congo Tales, told by the people of Mbomo", a superb collection of pictures by Pieter Henket, who also happens to be the son of Hubert-Jan Henket, the architect of the cloud.

This is the first time I can see this building on TE, a very interesting "cloud", for me in the shape of a Zeppelin, where the suspended part is the building itself and the golden pigeon is a surprise :)
great photo

Hello Benny,
I think Rob has posted a view of this building, with its strange, new additional roof.
Your photograph definitely makes the new exhibition galleries appear like a giant egg, laid upon the roof of the pearlier building. It looks to have an amazingly textured surface!
I like how you have used the branches as a natural border to your photograph. It adds a sense of mystery, as if we are peeping secretly at the building.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Benny
A very unusual building. Is that a egg or stone interpretation on top? Definitely something that would attract interest. Your note says it is functional with exhibit floors within. A view not often seen ! TFS David

Hallo Benny,

Hi Benny
It's so strange to see this kind of ultra modern addition to a classic 19th century building. It looks as if a Zeppelin landed on its roof... but than it's not easy to decide how to build an extension to a 200 years' old structure and not to make it look awkward. Any attempt to build something in the 19th century style would probably result in the original building losing its perfect balance and shape.
Great photo with lovely contrasting colours and the frame made of tree branches.
Best wishes
Kasia

Hello Benny ,

Hello Benny,
The giant golden pigeon and the even bigger egg behind it are surprise additions to the roof. The neoclassical Greco Roman entrance is attractive too. Tfs!

Hi Benny
Looks like a giant ostrich egg sitting so comfortably up there - possibly awaiting to hatch but what a great ideas? Superb compo the stark contrast obviously hard to miss as main focal of interest making the neat arty building look even more graceful. Intense deep colours is the icing on the cake. Brill shot with good sharpness. Congrats
Best regards

Hello Benny, I cannot imagine what the exhibition space can be like in 'the cloud' with its' curved lines.
It certainly makes an interesting picture as it seems to sit atop the 19th century neo classical building.
I like the viewpoint with the dark vegetation framing the bright sunlit buildings.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hi Benny,
The trees are framing well the building. The point of view is showing the details of the architecture of the museum. The light is making the colors to stand out. Have a nice day.
