Whales, a photo from Monaco-Ville, South

Photographer's Note

I like whales. Any kind. Orcas, potheads, humps, finbacks, Moby Dicks…. Well, I also like sardines , but whales really make me shiver. Not the same kind of shivering as Japanese fishermen thinking about the profit they’ll be able to make, but a slightly more romantic thought about gigantic pussy cats amusing themselves in the Ocean’s swimming pool.

Here’s another place worth of interest for your children while travelling in the south of France: Oceanographic museum of Monaco (prince and princesses free, promise).

always love this kind of place, not only my kids :)

ROTFL!!! Gal! Comment puis-je arriver à faire un semblant de critique avec ton humour désopilant? Toute la grande famille des poissons va y passer? Et tu auras su nous égarer parmi ces poissons, petits et grands. Et ça m'enchante d'être égarée. Égarée dans ce bleu/gris qui ne fait pas rêver que les enfants. Égarée dans ta galerie qui m'ébahit à chaque fois. Égarée et enchantée de l'être.
Photographie des sardines, des thons, des baleines et des enfants Gal. Des vieux, des jeunes, des pères Noël, des statues, ... Je serai enchantée...

Salut Gal,
Décidemment, tu as fais tous les coins pour touristes de la Côte d'Azur ;o mais bon, le musée océanographique de Monaco vaut vraiment le détour je trouve..
Une belle brochette de sardines donc et une lumière absolument superbe qui vient éclairer le garçon..
Le mouvement est bien perçu avec une vitesse de 1/10, c'est tout bon.

Não consigo tirar os olhos deste tanque de pequenas baleias Gal. A tua foto já parecia promissora no thumb, mas assim em grande os 2/3 da esquerda colam-me os olhos ao ecrã. O movimento e acima de tudo a personalidade com que os peixes olham para ti é assustador. Depois há a criança sobre aquela luz fabulosa, puxando a gola da camisa, batendo no vidro como que querendo espevitar ainda mais o cardume. Magnífico o jogo jogado entre as duas espécies... Mas este azul continua na minha cabeça... tem uma qualidade e uma luz realmente plástica, eléctrica, metálica. Não sei explicar, só sei que é muito bonita. Grande foto.

Silver fish seem like being captured in the piece of ice.. captured in crazy move..Boy touching them gently, as not being sure are they real.. Nice work.. very moody.. Congratulations!

Beautiful one, Gal!
Good composition as a base, then terriffic light/contrast on the left and your little one just glowing in the dark, on the other end of the glass tank.
His arms show exactly what he feels being glued to (immersed into) what's been going on in the wast water in front of him.
I also love the effect of the reflections on the tank's right edge (just in front of the kid) - they make the edge look uneven and as if the whole water-world is protruding into 'real world', if you know what I mean.
Really good control over light here and well spotted angle.

This is an impressive shot with a superb control of a difficult light. The composition is also a great pleasure to observe with 2/3 of the picture occupied by the fish tank. And the blue general tone if fantastic. Well done.

Hey Gal, thats some amazing fish activity. Shutter speed here is perfect to keep the boy sharp and slow enough to show the fish frenzy at the same time. Nice one.

This one is so superb. The contrast between the light and the dark zones is amazing. The quiet look of your special model against the frenetic fish activity. The colors are awesome. If you take a good look on your composition you can see a fish on the aquarium at the right side that is spying the entire scene, trying to past undercover. Your notes about this theme are great and made me already smile this morning.

Ah ah, une personne d'origine portugaise qui n'aimerait pas les sardines ça ne serait pas commun non? j'adore cette compo, tous ces poissons qui bougent à toute allure et cette couleur qui ressort de l'aquarium... La position de l'enfant est superbe avec son bras tendu, on dirait qu'il hésite à poser sa main... Du très joli Gal, di 1/10 avec un non stabilisé, tu ne trembles pas tellement toi ?

T'avais pris la canne à pêche avec ? Ca aurait été sympa, un bon petit souper ;)
Bon aà défaut t'avais l'appareil pour capturer ce chouette moment....ca va aussi.
Assez fou ce plan gauche avec ces 1012 poissons en mouvement, entassé dans cet acqaurium, ca donne un sacré effet.
Puis sur la droite, plus de tranquilité, une personne, cet enfant seul, immobile, chouette contraste.
Les teintes me plaisent bien et la lumière sur l'enfant et son visage est bien sympa.
T'as capturé au bon moment avec cette pose et cette attitute.

Elle est super ta photo. j'aime beaucoup tout ce bleu, tout froid. la lumière des aquariums c'est toujorus surprenant. j'aime aussi le geste de l'enfant.
Et puis je suis jaloux, car ta photo est plus belle que la mienne, j'avais fait pratiquement la même l'année dernière à Barcelone. (même compo)

D'un côté, la surpopulation, le stress, ça grouille de partout et d'un autre le calme, la fascination.
Cette opposition est superbe et est très bien réalisée. La lumière qui éclaire la fille est superbe , surtout pour le visage.
Et ces couleurs bleu violet donne une très belle ambiance me faisant croire que je regarde une photo monochrome

C'est la première fois que je vois Picard (connu en France pour leurs produits de mer congelés) faire une expo aritisque dans un musée oceanographique avec ce bloc de glaçon géant de poissons (attention petite fille, c'est froid !). Bravo comment tu as tourné cette scène en compo artistique.

Joli cadrage l'effet permet d'imaginer que ces "sardines"sont dans un gros glaçon, ou dans du plastique. Et j'aime aussi la place serré de l'image ou se trouve le gamin. Ainsi que le fort contraste de l’image

If these are whales, then what's the kid ;-)
You see how aquariums are interesting for adults.
This shot is totally different from your other one and I like it too. The positions of the kid's arms and the strange effect of the moving fish is excellent.

tu t'es peut-être un peu ennuyé en visitant cet endroit mais t'en a tiré une excellente photo ici.
J'aime beaucoup ces teintes bleus-gris.
La densité de possion est impressionnante et l'agitation contraste avec le calme de l'enfant.
Ma critique est nulle mais ta photo me plait vraiment, c'est tout ce que je voulais dire. :)

This is excellent, a great moment in time where a little girl is illumined... Great light on her, i like the one fish in the back whose eye stares back at the camera.
