Photographer's Note

An abandoned old boat restaurant on the shore of Trakai Castle Lake. I've added a faint blue cyan tint to the white sky and its reflections in the water. Trakai Castle is 17 km west of the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius.

Hello Chris,
Bad weather prevented me from going here, but obviously this castle offers fine photo opportunities also from some distance. Actually the boat looks almost as interesting. A very fine work of traditional woodcraft and boat-construction. This nice composition gives us two equally fine views.

An innovative composition making excellent use of the abandoned boat as a frame for the lake and castle. Pleasing lights and colours and good clarity. Excellent rendering of the textural detail in the rotting hulk.

La distance entre le bateau abandonné et le château donne de la profondeur à la composition. La prise de vue permet de voir le château et les détails du bateau. La lumière a un bel effet sur les couleurs de l'image. Bonne journée.

Tu nous offre une perspective particulière et très originale dans cette composition. Un bel avant plan avec ce vieux bateau au repos et un bel arrière plan avec ce château sur l'autre rive.

I really like this point of view. It´s well seen, with the boat in the front, within reach of the viewer. The castle in the background adds to the timelessness of the scene. Great DOF and lovely tones. Very nicely composed and presented.

I like how you masterfully managed two subjects into one shot: the boat-house/restaurant, wooden made and well shown to the details - and the castle complex in vivid color and bright light upon, on the far side of the lake.

Hello Chris, a lovely composition using the 'derelict' boat in the fg as a sort of frame for Trakai Castle in the distance.The two parts sit together well.
Your depth of field is very good, everything is sharp.

Hi Chris,
You found excellent viewpoint for this castle. Old boats always make a good subject. Here these two are nicely in balance. I wonder if use of polarizer was necessary as now there wasn't quite enough light to fit the castle in depth of field.

Hello Chris,

This is a most inventive composition, with the boat's prow emerging from the corner and angling across the frame. Its rusty hull and leaf strewn deck suggest its lack of sailing.
The castle makes a good second focal point and draws attention right into the b/g.
My only suggestion, and I know I'm being picky here, is that the boat is the main focal point so should have been mentioned in the title. If the castle was to be the main focus, then, maybe, the sharp focus should have been on the castle.
Okay, I'm finished.
I still like the photograph!

Trakai is a very attractively situated castle and you have captured it in an unususal way with with a boat on the FG, very nive photo

Hello Chris,

original composition with the trakai castle only as a background for the old boat. Beautiful picture. I stayed in a small hostel on the end of this bridge that can be seen. trakai is interesting aslo besides the castle, for instance Karaims houses and cemetery.

An original way to frame the castle. I like it with the old boat in foreground - it adds a lot with the old textures, the fallen leaves... and it leads our eyes to the castle in background.
