Isola, a photo from Siena, Tuscany

Ecco un luogo che merita assolutamente una visita. Il paese e i suoi dintorni offrono una serie di sorprese impreviste e suggestive. La zona di San Quirico è senza dubbio una delle più affascinanti della Val d'Orcia, ricca di storia, di luoghi, monumenti, atmosfere che lasciano senza fiato.

Questo "isolotto" di cipressi circondato da "onde" di argilla è visibile dalla Cassia pochi chilometri prima di S. Quirico.
Ho aspettato quasi 20 minuti seduto sul guard rail di un cavalcavia sperando che il sole si aprisse un varco fra le nuvole. E tanta pazienza è stata premiata da madre natura che ha voluto regalarmi un raggio di sole per colorare questo tramonto toscano.

This view is simply breathtaking Andrea. It was worthwhile to wait for this lighting as it gives the landscape such a fluid look. Every gentle undulation is enhanced by the play of light and shadow. I can almost see this land moving like ripples on the sea. And then there's the stand of cypresses (one of my favorite trees) all alone on this sea just as you say like an island. But unlike an island in the sea this island is part of the undulating sea or ground here. It's more like something poking up through the ground which makes the ground even more fluid.

The only thing I might change would be the tops of the other trees in the back. Perhaps this is a time for the clone tool to make the featured stand isolated. Also perhaps a slightly tighter crop, placing the cypresses closer to the upper left corner, possibly giving them more prominence.

Anyway, it is beautiful, Andrea, and well captured. And thanks for the patience to wait for this lighting. This makes my desire to drive the length of the Via Cassia even stronger.

Great picture indeed ! At first I though it was a desert or something. The fields seem to be made of sand. I like the movement and the contrast. Beautiful compo.

Andrea, this so well known shot from Tuscany is always pleasure to see. It is slightly different version as most of the photos from there are taken during summer, so the grass is green. I really like those long shadows of hills as well as of the trees. Lovely work. Lucie

Andrea,
this is gorgeous. It gives a visual effect like sand dunes. You were rewarded for your patience to mother nature...what a beautiful play of light and shadows, the colours are magnificent, the cypresses the only straight lines, the gently dramatic sky. Great work.

I like your shot too - looks unearthly, the light helped to show all these "waves" of the ground. Looks more like the desert with this colours.
