Photographer's Note

Still in the Barbagia region, our next two nights were to be spent in the village of Aritzo in the Gennargentu massif, so we left Orgosolo and arrived there early. The Gennargentu massif has been made into a National Park, much to the disgust of the inhabitants of the area, who are all fiercely independent and traditionalistic. Before setting off on an easy walk where the weather conditions were not a problem, we wandered round the town where many of the buildings were from a time long ago.
This shot is the entrance to the old Aritzo prison built in the 17th century. It is now a museum but prior arrangements have to be made to visit. There are so many verticals none of which are parallel. I did my best to correct any distortion but it wasn’t easy to do.
A view from the back is in the WS.
