Vulgar name: Cinzia

Family: Nymphalidae

Subfamily: Satyrinae

Tribe: Melitaeini

Front wing length mm. 17-24

Male: orange color with black nerve and transverse designs. Series of submarginal black spots in the hind wings.

Female: similar to the male but generally larger

Reverse: front wings of orange color with yellowish apex and edge and very reduced black designs. Hindquarters orange with basal spaces, postdiscal fascia and yellowish marginal lunulae. Series of submarginal black points

Distribution: all of Italy, excluding Sardinia and Elba.

Habitat: meadows and bushes from the basal to the mountain and cacuminal level, up to about 2300 meters above sea level

Annual generations: one with flickering in May-June, with a tendency to July-August in the higher locations.

Nurse plants: Plantago media, Plantago lanceolata, Centaurea sp.
