Photographer's Note
During the tour through the canals of Livorno you come across the New Fortress. Certainly more beautiful outside than inside, where everything is abandoned as you can see in the WS. While the outer walls are well preserved and also offer beautiful reflections on the canals. The construction of the New Fortress dates back to the end of the sixteenth century, when the architect Buontalenti was commissioned by the Medici government to draw up a plan for the new city of Livorno. Around 1576 the architect prepared a design for an inhabited area enclosed by a wall and a system of pentagonal ditches; however, the plan did not yet indicate the presence of a real fortress, but was limited to the simple tracing of a continuous fortified circuit, characterized by five bastions at the top of the pentagon and the middle of the northern side, with the sixth obtained from the pre-existing fortress Vecchia. Until the early twentieth century a cannon was positioned on the embankment in the center of the fortress which was fired to announce noon.

Ciao Luciano.
The scene looks rather unfamiliar to me, an old fortress surrounded by modern boats in the canal. Nice reflection of the walls, let's hope for another four hundred years to keep this historic site in such a good shape. TFS!!!

Ciao Luciano
Looks a bit like the Kotor Harbour Citadel. Nice symmetrical reflections in the still water & superb warm vs cold colour contrasts. Tfs!

Hello Luciano,
What we see of the "New" fortress looks quite attractive, and the corner of the wall is nicely mirrored in the water, where the reflection is framed by the small boats on each side. The photo is perfectly balanced and of course well exposed. The WS are fine complements. We don't see much else of Carlo these days. ;-)
Best regards,
Gert

Ciao Caro Luciano,
Definitely a very well chosen viewpoint, where fine details of the fortress walls are reflected with mirror-like clarity in the canal and are edged boats in shade, boats in sunlight and boat reflections!
Aa always well exposed, with good colours.
I rather like the w/s of the ruins, with stone walls and fine arches. Only the metal fencing spoils it. Made safe, this would be a great place to photograph, too.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

One of the most beautiful panorama views the wall of the fortress, together reflection, and boats.
Nice colours are very pleasant to look at.
An excellent depth and perspective image too.
Very well done, TFS.

Hello Luciano, a fortress where the walls are in good condition and in a distinctive style. I like the little turrets standing out from the walls.
The canal gave you the bonus of good reflection.
Three interesting pictures.
Kind regards, Jean.

Buona sera Luciano,
Interesting reading about the "new" fortress from the 16th century. Though it looks abandoned inside those walls, I can only assume this was kept untouched from older era, as I saw in the virtual tour taken on Google-Map. The canal around the fort-island offer many photogenic spotts. 43.555, 10.3111 on the map.
Anyway, looks very intriguing as a journey through times. Wonderful the reflection found here.
Arrivederci,
Ike

curious the small cabines for the guards up there in the ramparts, the shapes are curious usually they are cylindrical. the use of the bricks is another interesting detail, usually the stones are more usual. nice these three images,
take care

Ciao Luciano,
certainly the water aspect adds a lovely touch here and gives a chance for reflection in which sky seems more blue than above the fortress. Charming spot with palm tree and other vegetation contributing green color. Nice shades, and of course the boats decorate the foreground lovely as well,
Very well done,
M

Hello Luciano,
A good photo of these old wall and their nice and warm colours, further highlighted by the fine sunlight. The reflections are also gorgeous and nicely framed by the boats on both sides. You handled the exposure of the shaded and brightly sunlit parts very well too.

Bonjour, cher ami Luciano,
Les douves semblent servir à la navigation de plaisance.
Les remparts de cette forteresse gardent un charme particulier.
Une bien belle mise en image et une belle leçon d'histoire.
Amitiés.

Hello Luciano,
This is a view of Livorno I had not seen before.
The fortress looks very interesting for a visit as we can see in the WS.
Yet your main picture is absolutely the best.
Colourful, with clear reflections and the presence of several boats in the canal.
Good choice of point of view, very attractive composition, perfect sharpness.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Luciano.
A great composition, with this corner of the fortress and the guardhouse above, the walls within the waters of the canal provided a good defense, nice to find here a berth for small boats.
Point of view, sharpness, lightness, color and the chosen composition are excellent.
A very beautiful photo. I like.
You have a good day.
Best regards.
Luis.
P.S. How is your area with Covid? Here Alcala is not too bad, Madrid has also gone down a lot, but to prevent the bridge from La Inmaculada, let's go out to other places, they make a perimeter closure of the Community and you cannot enter or leave from Dec. 4 to 9.
