282- Cupola Sta Maria del fiore, a photo from Florence, Tuscany

Photographer's Note

When we went to Florence last June, the main memory I had from our last quick visit there in 1983 was the climb we did to the top of the Duomo’s cupola.
We would have liked to renew the experience this time, but we were told there was a week’s waiting list (!) So as we like climbing, we climbed up the Campanile, and the Belfry tower of the Palazzo Vecchio instead :-)
I still had my mind on this Cupola though, and whenever I had a chance, I took pictures of it on all angles.
The dome was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi and is the largest cupola in masonry ever built, from 1420 to 1436, more than 100 years after the beginning of the cathedral’s construction.
It’s a model of beauty and competence that leaves us aghast centuries later .

WE had exactly the same problem when we were in Florence but, on reflection, I'm glad we chose to climb the campanile for then, we could take much closer, clearer photographs of the dome of the Duomo and we could still achieve birds' eye views of the city.
I like this close-up!
It's a fine composition, with a good sense of depth, lovely lighting contrasts and fine details of the dome. We can also see the the many figures standing there, confirming the scale.

A week's waiting list to climb the cupola! That sound like mass tourism at its most grotesque level. In 1969 there was a "waiting list" of probably five seconds.
But you got yourself just as nice photo angles from outside. This is an elegantly tight composition with the dome placed at the end of a long diagonal section and fine contrasts of red and white.

I thought it is a must to climb the dome but you have discouraged me a bit... I hope you don't have to stay in the line for the whole week :)
Great composition here with selected fragments of the rich architecture.
The blue sky adds a nice touch and color here.

I really like the way you framed this one- the facade on the left of the frame nicely guides the eye to the 'pièce de resistance'of the town - the marvelous Brunelleschi cuppola of the Duomo - with the omnipresent tourists on them. Bonjour MarieLouise, a lovely set of shots from Florence.
I too was so impressed by Brunelleschi’s Dome; I loved the way that it stood so tall above all the other buildings in the city.
Here, even though we see only a small part of it, we are still able to recognise it. I like that we can see the people enjoying the view. A sharp shot, every part in perfect focus.

Adore the viewpoint of this architectural shot where addition of diagonal lines and angled light give the shape a noticeable depth resulting in a three-dimensional image making it more realistic and visually appealing to the viewers. Marie-Louise, i visited Florence in 2002. The picture shows the cupola crowned by a tower where it is possible to climb. It represents a great viewpoint to admire the city. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Despues de un largo periodo que necesitaba como descanso y para dedicarme a mi nuevo cambio de residencia, de Madrid me he trasladado a vivir a una ciudad mas pequeña a 30 km. Alcala de Henares, una bonita ciudad con mucha historia y muy agradable y tranquila.
Fantástico este detalle con la parte superior de la cupula de Santa Maria y el remate de esa otra torre junto a la misma, verdaderos encajes en el marmol.
Muy eficaz colorido, que destaca los detalles de la imagen.
Una buena gestion, tanto de la luminosidad, como de la nitidez.
Muy bien hecho. Me gusta.
Disfruta del fin de semana.
