Abbazia di San Giuliano
The Abbey of San Giuliano is located at km. 5,300 of the road that goes up from Spoleto to Monteluco, on a hill detached from the main massif, at 628 meters above sea level.
The complex dates back to the 12th century as a whole, but the first hermit presences in the place date back to the beginnings of Christianity. According to an ancient tradition, a matron named Gregoria would have given her possessions on the Monteluco hill to St. Isaac, a monk who came to Spoleto from Syria, fleeing from the persecution of Emperor Anastasio, to allow him to found a church and a monastery, dedicated to his companion San Giuliano, martyred in 302 under Diocletian.
