Photographer's Note

Another (and the last one) diptych from the series Now and then. This time it is Venice. The upper picture was made in 1979, the lower is from 2009.

Travelling abroad from Poland was very difficult before 1989. For every journey we had to apply for the passport, we were not sure if we would get it. The same for visas - we had to have money (dollars) or the invitation. But to buy foreign currency and to take it away was illegal. (and the month salary was less than 30 USD!). There were a lot of formalities. But somehow I managed to go to Italy in 1979. I went with my family by car, with the tent
and all food in jars. Thirty years later, it was easy. I wanted to meet TE friends, so I went, no problem. Now I can go wherever I want, even if it is far away :).

So the travelling for me has changed incredibly. On the other hand, on the pictures the Basilica and Doge Palace in Venice look the same. :)
