Photographer's Note

Torcello is the first of the islands in the Venicean Archipel that was inhabited by refugees that flew for the Longobards and the Huns.
It was a florishing island for several centuries but Malaria made victims in such numbers that the people left the island.
Nowadays there live only 60 people on the island. The main attraction is the splendid old Basilica dating from 539 AD!!
