Photographer's Note
Check out the WS too!
Second and last post from the interiors of the fortress of Narni, today I show an ancient armor, and the spears, while in the WS two photos of the perfectly preserved ancient desks where you wrote with pen and inkwell.
At the highest point of Narni, the Albornoziana fortress, which looks imposing and austere at the historic center below, the narrow gorge crossed by the Nera river and the Via Flaminia, can be reached either by climbing on foot from via del Monte or by following the road towards Flaminia then turning left into via Feronia. Significant example of fourteenth-century military architecture still well preserved, it was built between 1360 and 1370 at the behest of Cardinal Egidio Albornoz by renowned architects such as Ugolino da Montemarte and Matteo Gattapone. It has a quadrangular plan, with 4 corner towers, one of which, the largest, constitutes the keep. Decorative elements are the two portals of Gothic lines and the four coats of arms carved on the access door. Inside there are fragments of pictorial decorations including a Madonna with Child from the Umbrian school of the 15th century and the coat of arms of Urban IV. Cardinal Egidio De Albornoz (Cuenca 1299 - Viterbo 1367) legate and papal vicar, worked throughout the Papal State to strengthen papal power. Everywhere he built castles and fortresses, often designing them himself, as a symbol of the power of the Church. Of the same period are the major and minor fortresses of Assisi, the fortress of Spoleto, the fortress of Todi and the fortress of Orvieto.

Ciao Luciano,
It always fascinates me to see such old items. I can imagine people actually and wearing and using these things. There might even be some of their DNA on them! I like the way the spears are arranged, too. I noticed a slight tilt on the bottom, and I made a WS with minor changes. Take care!
P.S. Trekearth says I have reached my WS limit today, so I'll add the WS photo tomorrow. :-)

Bonsoir Luciano,

The swords displayed gave a sense of symmetry to the picture, Luciano.
Managed well with outside light inside the hall, fine combined with shadows.
Buona giornanta,

Hello Luciano,
The swords are nicely arranged. On the thumbnail they looked like two modern sculptures, but they turned out to be very old, however still looking good. I would agree with Ian that some very minor adjustment of the light would have let us see the armour a bit clearer. The old desks in the WS are also interesting. I wonder if the documents seen there are also old.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Luciano,
A great photo of the old armour and the different kinds of swords on either side of it, which are nicely and artistically arranged. They also stand out well from the white walls.

Ciao Luciano,
great series of photos. We feel as if we were visiting the place in person. Too often I give up on interiors not having enough time for everything, but it is worth to explore to learn more about the place.
Very good reportage,

Hi Luciano
At first glance the arrangement of the swords resembles fans. Good sharpness and symmetry and the suit of armour makes a strong focal point. Tfs!

Ha! Ha! Luciano, I immediately felt old, when I read your notes, for as a child, I wrote with a pen which was dipped in ink! It was easy to make blots but it also made you think ahead, for it was impossible to remove any mistakes!!
Your photographs of the interior give us an insight as to what was on display and the the different features, over the years. I immediately wanted to turn one of the sword displays round, so that it would be symmetrical. Do our minds become trained to what we expect to see?
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Luciano,
At first sight a bit of a less obvious combination:
swords and armour in the main photo and in the WS the desks for those who preferred to read or write. Maybe they wrote stories full of violence :)
The desks look really old.
Fortunately, the furniture had already changed a bit when I was at school :)
Best regards, Paul

Hi luciano.
Interesting composition with the armor that seems to be in very good condition, the collection of swords completes the exhibition set very well.
Very interesting the old desks.
A nice photo, with natural colors, good lighting and sharpness.
Well done. Love it.
Enjoy the weekend.
Very best regards.
Luis.
