Open Road, a photo from Perugia, Umbria

Photographer's Note

Continuing with the travelogue of my cycle tour in Italy, it struck me that I haven’t yet shown any images of bicycles or of the kind of scene we enjoyed for most of the day, so here’s a shot of some of the pleasant scenery en route to our next stop Assisi.

Having left Gubbio we climbed into rolling hills which afforded some stunning views, well deserved after the effort. This is a view looking back to the now distant Appenines, after a steep ascent which my route sheet described as “challenging but gorgeous” and I couldn’t have described it better myself. This road traces part of the pilgrimage route travelled by the young St Francis between Assisi and Gubbio.

Hello susanna,
That landscape is really wonderful. The lingering path and the combinated green/yellow colours make this a beautiful destanation.
For my personal taste (i like deep colours) it could use a facelift in boosting up the colours and that is exactly what i have done in the ws...hope you like it.

J'aime bien les compo qui incluent une route. Cela guide toujours le regard. Ce paysage campagnard est typique de cet région et de certaine parties du SW de la France.

Hi Susanna,
A charming view of the countryside on this historic route. I like the way the yellow bushes complement the colour scheme. The road takes the eye nicely into the frame and the cyclist helps balance and provide a sense of proportion. Well captured.

Susanna,
Nice to see you posting, and this looks to be a fine landscape for those fit enough to take the two-wheeled beast for a spin. (I'm not one of those - great machines for rolling down hills, I think!). Clearly you are somewhat fitter than your friend, perhaps having to put on a spurt now and then, to race ahead and catch them in the shot.
I can imagine this road, peeling off nto the distance - up and down and up and down again through this lovely landscape.
Still, I'm sure you achieve a whole new perspective travelling in this way.

Magnifique point de vue sur ce paysage de campagne. Une excellente profondeur de champs accentue la sensation d'espace, les couleurs sont bien contrastées, bref c'est superbe. Bravo

Beautiful summer weather, hilly Italian countryside and narrow country road open for cycling. Looks a perfect vacation day. The road creates perspective and the yellow flowered bush frames scene nicely.

Roads are such strong images, i think, implying voyages and far destinations. The bicycle on the road is just the right size and in the right position to stress the distance. the star of the scene , however, is that stunning countryside. A lovely fluffy sky, wild flowers and rolling green hills.It all amounts to a lovely portrait of Umbria. regards kevin

I didn't realize until now that this italian trip was on bicycle, Susanna. So, this shot is certainly quite appropriate to show us part of the group involved in this Giro d'Italia. I hope without any chemical doping. I'm sure that the landscape and nature was already enough to give you the strength to keep on moving. Good composition with that street leading diagonally in deep into the landscape.

en encore et toujours sur la bicicletta !
la premiere chose a laquelle je pense en voyant la personne qui grimpe la cote derriere toi, c'est que ca me donne chaud et que je ferais mieux de vous attendre a la buvette avec une bonne ichnusa (biere sarde) bien glacee... D'ailleurs t'es pas un peu malade de faire du velo en plein soleil a cette heure la, 13.18 c'est juste l'heure de s'arreter a la trattoria ! Par contre tu as reussi a plutot bien preserver les couleurs et a fournir un bon premier plan vers ce paysage si chouette en utilisant le gros buisson, me piace, Signorina !

This is very pleasant scenery well worth the slower pace of a cycle to give you time to enjoy it. It's a lovely sky you had with the attractive clouds. The yellow bushes and even a touch of red in the hedgeback give an extra flash of colour.

great POV, with the road leading the eye into the shot. Nice colour tones from the bushes on the left. The distant hills and the sky are very attractive.
