Photographer's Note
We are still in Todi and today I show you the church of San Fortunato. Very particular because it was built at the top of a long staircase and allows particular perspectives. The interior, on the other hand, is rather bare and disappointing, but the tomb of Jacopone da Todi is preserved in the basement, which I will show in the next post. In the 2 WS a total view and an interior view. The news on the construction of this church dates back to prior to 1198, the year in which Innocent III consecrated an altar to San Cassiano in the interior of this church, therefore the church appears to be early Christian, as evidenced by the lions on the entrance portal, two objects called pulvini transformed into holy water stoups. In June 1292 the church was transformed into a Gothic style, hard work interrupted only during the plague of 1348 to be resumed after the municipal reform of 1405 which imposed a tax of 2% on all internal entrances and transits to the city in order to once again finance further interventions on the restructuring and reconstruction of the church of San Fortunato.
The new people in charge of the work were the architects Giovanni Santuccio di Firenzuola with his nephew Bartolo. However, it was only in the first half of the 15th century that only the lower part of the facade was finished.

Hello Luciano,
Seeing the interior in the WS I agree that it looks a bit bare and disappointing. "Nothing special" compared with many other cathedrals. Seeing the other WS I find the building quite nice but surprisingly low in comparison with the width. But I have no complaints of the main photo. This part of the façade is totally impressive and the photo has the best possible symmetry. It certainly doesn't harm the photo to have two tourists included. ;-)
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Luciano,
The stone carvings of the arch and around the greenish door are wonderful and you show them here with such superb clarity and sharpness. The two people are well included as well and I like the symmetry.

Bonsoir Luciano,

Ciao Luciano,
This close view of the door is beautiful. The arch is so intricate, and I like the green color, too. This seems to be the most ornate part of the church. In the WS, the top part of the exterior looks very plain, and the interior is very simple, too. The door and archway are the stars. :-) Take care!

Hi Luciano
A straight on pov which takes you into the image of the old portal from yester-years and its natural colours. It's touristy kinda shot but rather pleasing. Splendid shot

Salut Luciano,

Ciao Caro Luciano,
This was certainly the best photograph for your main post, for it very clearly reveals the receding, decorated arches of the main doorway and emphasises the beauty of the eclectic carvings.
The perspective is very surprising, too!
The interior of the building's structure is not really disappointing, it is the arrangement and quality of the furniture which causes the disappointment.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Luciano,
The main entrance of the church is richly decorated with many columnar bas-reliefs that form beautiful and high arches.
This image makes us suspect that there are many beautiful architectural decorations to be found.
In the WS we see that at both sides of the main entrance there are two smaller gates which are also decorated.
The top half of the front facade, however, I find very bizarre. It's like they forgot that part.
Due to the arrangement of the chairs at a safe COVID distance, the interior seems a bit empty.
Actually a church with a very nice name. This is my first time hearing this name.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Luciano,
Just my observation, many cathedrals, basilicas and churches in Italy have impressive exteriors and plain interiors, or plain exteriors and very impressive interiors. Sometimes both. Always pays to peek inside just in case! This one has a very nice exterior. Tfs!

Ciao Luciano,
The gate has a fantastic symmetry of the carved & decorated arch. A known style we saw in many churchs and cathedrals throughout Europe.
Buona serata,

Hi Luciano.
A wonderful image with this great cover, I love the great variety of design of these columns that surround the door, it also surprises me that the two sculptures that we see on the sides of the door have been preserved, in many cathedrals only the holes remain .
Sharpness, lighting, color, and magnificent composition; they are managed to perfection, in this beautiful image.
I like very much.
You have a good day. Very best regards.
Luis.
