Castello di Schioppo – Scheggino (PG)
The town of Schioppo rises to 475 meters above sea level, a transit villa crossed by an ancient path that connected Spoleto to Ceselli and Monteleone through Castelmonte; it takes its name from the "rock", in Latin Scopulus, the great rocky wall that looms over the village.
The locality has been inhabited since prehistoric times, on the walls of the Riparo dello Schioppo paintings were found, thirty-one of color black and one of red, mostly schematic scaliform, associated with anthropomorphic, in a context dated between the Neolithic and the Metals Age, compatible with the late copper age or the first bronze.
