Photographer's Note
Church of San Bartolo
The old church of San Bartolo or Bartolomeo was rededicated in the 16th century to the Madonna delle Grazie, a cult that was becoming very popular at that time. The remaining sixteenth-century pictorial decoration depicts the Madonna delle Grazie with two saints on the sides of which only St. Bartholomew can still be recognized while holding up his body, while above the figures the inscription AVE GRATIARUM MATER can be seen with difficulty.
The existence of the church of San Bartolo or Bartolomeo as a private church of the Pianciani family is confirmed by various documentary sources dating back to the fourteenth century where it is described as a private chapel. In 1458 Piergiovanni Pianciani had the church of mastro Martino lombardo restored, ordering the reconstruction of the corners, the walls, the roof and the construction of a seven-foot high bell gable (about 2 meters) for a fee of nine florins or the use of the lands of the church for three years. Other information can be found in the bequests of the same family where there is talk of a building in need of restoration.
Lascaris speaks of the church in one of his pastoral visits in the seventeenth century. After a fatal accident that occurred last century, the road was widened and the church was cut, of which only the back wall remains, so as to appear as a shrine.

Hello Silvio,
This is a very odd photo that made me wonder if this was really just a wayside shrine, like those often shown by Krzysztof. I asked myself how it could be a church, when all we see is a wall, but no room and no entrance. The last sentence of the note explains the strange fate of this old family sanctuary. There is not much left to see here, but it's a curious item in your impressive collection of churches in the Perugia region.
Kind regards,
Gert

Ciao Silvio,
I see in this street chapel no church but maybe understand I the note not perfect.
Indeed we get out of Polend regular the same pictures, but better maintain.
Also in Belgium see we, certainly in Flemish Belgium, where I live, small chapel mostly a gift of individuals.
Excellent sharp and nice colourful, but would must become restored.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John.

Ciao Silvio
I have the impression of a recuperated piece of a dismembered church, protected as a relic by a roof, as souvenir of the early church construction.
Fortunately it doesn't appear vandalized.
Ciao

Hi Silvio,
Les arbres cadrent bien la petite chapelle. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de la chapelle. La lumière met en valeur les couleurs de l'image. Bonne journée.

Ciao Silvio,
Not much is left of the church indeed.
We can still spot some remains of frescos and an inscription.
So pity it was damaged so badly, very good presentation of course,

Ciao SIlvio, povera chiesetta, l'hanno affettata come un salame, evidentemente San Bartolo non è stato un buon salvatore visto l'incidente stradale, una cosa molto particolare, ma rispetto per l'edificio e la storia, zero. Buona serata,Luciano

hello Silvio, Even for the shrine, it is very small, strange to call it the church. Original composition.

Hi Silvio
Remnant of an old chapel or more looked like a shrine with intriguing fresco and content which steal the eye. You've done well with exposure, pleasantly coloured and good contrast
Best regards

Hello Silvio,
I think it is time for this church to cut its losses and have a renovation of the fresco - so little of the original artwork remains.
Regards,
MT
