Photographer's Note
Coronation of the Virgin between Blessed Giovanni Colombini and San Girolamo
Tempera on ribbed panel with mutilated sides and base, the original frame is fragmentary; 130 x 140 cm. Sano di Pietro, 1473.
Signed and dated, it comes from the monastery of Saints Gervasio and Protasio in Capo d’Acqua di Gualdo, from where it was transported, at an unspecified time, to the town church of San Francesco. The mutilated figures of two angels and the two characters below indicate that the painting was cut, perhaps to fit into a smaller space.
A late inscription on the back identifies the two saints at the base as two Gualdese characters: Andrea di Paolo and the blessed Angelo.
Andrea di Paolo, belonging to the noble family of the Marquises of Tor d’Andrea, a Benedictine monk, established the Cistercian Congregation of the Body of Christ in Gualdo in 1328. Blessed Angelo, born around
in 1270 and died in 1324, he lived in the monastery from which the work comes.
In reality they are correctly identifiable as Blessed Giovanni Colombini and San Girolamo.

Hello Silvio,
It's interesting to see the entire painting in the WS, but its true beauty is better seen in the details, such as in the main photo and the other WS. In the closer views you also had a better control of the light, and these photos turned out perfectly.
Best regards,
Gert

Ciao Caro Silvio,
This is a fine close-up, revealing the beautiful details of the painting and the slightly broken textures of paint.
I like your crop, with the Madonna's head on one diagonal and the hands on an opposing one.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Silvio,
It's such a beautiful photo of the virgin.
The face is so pure and holy , blessed with kindness and compassion.
Two angels playing musical instruments - a trumpet and tambourine , honouring the 'blessing'.
Thanks for sharing such a sincere photo.

Ciao Silvio
I like the cracked and peeling texture of the paint although I am sure it is a restoration artist's worst nightmare. Good sharpness and tight framing with a soft, diffused light. Tfs!
