Photographer's Note

Foligno is an ancient town of Italy in the province of Perugia in east central Umbria, on the Topino river where it leaves the Apennines and enters the wide plain of the Clitunno river system. It is located 40 km (25 mi) south-east of Perugia, 10 km (6 mi) north-north-west of Trevi and 6 km (4 mi) south of Spello.

Foligno is a station on the main line from Rome to Ancona, and is the junction for Perugia; it is thus an important rail center, with repair and maintenance yards for the trains of central Italy, and was therefore subjected to severe Allied aerial bombing in World War II, responsible for its relatively modern aspect, although it retains some medieval monuments. Of its Roman past no significant trace remains, with the exception of the regular street plan of the centre. Other resources include sugar refineries and metallurgical, textile, building materials and paper and timber industries. After the war, the city's position in the plain and again its railroad connections have led to a considerable suburban spread with the attendant problems of traffic and air pollution, as well as a severe encroachment on the Umbrian wetlands. Foligno is on an important interchange road junction in central Italy and 2 km far from the centre of the city there is the Foligno Airport.

a beautiful night shot of the cheerful street with joyful people.
this light and old stone walls, a little noisy voices of passengers, still blue dark sky, all make very fine night atmosphere in it.
the night time is slowly passing like walking people on this street.

It is a very nice shot. The light is superb and the colours excellent. Just a minor remark about the man on the left hand side. Because of having his face cropped I would have left him totally out of the frame.

A good night time capture of this lively street. I like how the lady on the bicycle in the foreground is at odds with the people walking up and down the street. Also, the cool/warm tonal contrasts.

Anche qui realismo incredibile, hai persino congelato il ciclista in sella mentre pedala(quello in secondo piano)!
Sono stato in Umbria diverse volte, e ricordo questa atmosfera di animazione dei centri storici.

Hi Silvio,
A warm and very pleasant place, reminds me a bit of that painting by Van Gogh, that café from Arles. The deep blue sky is wedged in through the houses here in a nice way. An attractive daily (or maybe nightly) life scene!

Ecco cosa vuol dire avere una macchina che può sparare a 400 iso senza ottenere rumore... io queste foto le devo fare col cavalletto e niente persone che camminano!
Bella scena notturna sia per i bei colori dei palazzi contro il cielo azzurro che per le persone che passeggiano.

Good post-sunset shot. I do like these narrow European lanes and their vibrant atmosphere. This lane has a nice curve in it which asks, where does it go. Good composition.

I have always lighting problems when photographing narrow lanes like this: either the sky will be overexposed or the houses underexposed. You have solved the problem perfectly by chosing the blue hour and thus getting very good facades and a nice blue sky. It is especially good that the lane is full of life, the atmosphere is much better than it would be in an empty lane.

Mi piace questo notturno con cielo ancora blù, e mi piace lo spaccato di quotidianetà nel Corso di Foligno, una spledida cittadina che conosco! Moto bello il Duomo e la Piazza circostante. Non ho visto le note tecniche, ma hai scattato a mano? Se è così bravissimo! Ha volte ci si trova per caso e senza cavalletto, come è successo a ma con la foto di Tivoli che mi hai commentato, ci proviamo e su molti scatti qulacosa viene fuori. A presto, Nino.
