Castello di Grotti – Sant’Anatolia di Narco (PG)
Ancient castle of the municipality of Spoleto, now it is part of the Municipality of Sant’Anatolia.
It rises in an environment rich in cavities, close to a high rocky wall, dominated by a fortress dominating the surrounding area.
The name certainly derives from the morphology of the place where there are caves, ravines, rocky peaks and cracks that have been exploited in the construction of the first houses.
Inhabited since Roman times, as evidenced by a funerary inscription from the imperial era, found in the parish church of San Pietro and from clay finds and coins from the Roman era, discovered in 1989 in a cave during the execution of works for the collection of water from the Fonte Canale spring.
The castle of Grotti, probably arose in the Longobard age, but there is no evidence of this period.
