Photographer's Note
Staying in Florence, here we are at the Uffizi, the world famous art gallery and museum.
As art lovers this was one place we had to visit.
"The Gallery entirely occupies the first and second floors of the large building constructed between 1560 and 1580 and designed by Giorgio Vasari. It is famous worldwide for its outstanding collections of sculptures and paintings, (from the Middle Ages to the Modern Period.)"
What does Uffizi mean in Italian?
"In 1560, Cosimo I de Medici, the Duke of Tuscany, ordered a design of new office buildings for the magistrates of Florence.
This is why the building is called the Uffizi, 'offices'."
One painting that I remember vividly was Botticelli's 'Birth of Venus', an outstanding piece of work. There are so many beautiful paintings to view, it becomes quite overwhelming.
At the time of our visit in 2012, I am pretty sure that photography was not allowed in the Uffizi.
Thanks for looking.

Hello Jean,
The Uffizi gallery was no doubt one of the greatest art museums I have seen. Having just spent a year studying art history, I found favourites from the lectures in every room I stepped into. But in 1969 I could just enter the museum without standing in line, while in 1991 I had to be there before they opened to avoid the queues. Now I guess prior booking well ahead is necessary.
Although we can't see any paintings here we get a good view of the impressive architecture and the lively street. The gentleman in red (just for a change) is well placed in the foreground.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Jean,
Beautiful photo of the buildings of the Uffizi where through the entrance gate we can still clearly see the buildings on the other side of the Arno.
Sometime in the early eighties I visited the museum.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Jean
The bright areas are a bit blown out but that meant that everything else has good detail.

Hi Jean
The weather looks fine and so lovely to see the dynamic people out and about, adorning this intriguing architecture. There some bright colours which increases the visual effectiveness of this shot really well. Excellent shot

hello Jean,
I was in Uffizi in my first trip to italy in 1979. It is one of the most interesting museums in the world. I remember Boticelli's painting, of course, asmd many other famous pieces of art. I was in Florence twice later, but in the wrong time when the crowd was horrible and the queues to view the museum just absurd. yes, the solution is to buy the ticket in the Internet. Nice picture.

Ciao Jean,
Nice street scene in front of the famous gallery.
Plenty of people enjoying it in the BC times (before Covid).
Nobody even thought that the masks may be obligatory yet.
I still have not visited this beautiful town, may be this year...
Great reportage,

Hi Jean.
Magnificent image with this beautiful building that houses the treasures of the Uffizi Gallery, many people we see looming through the arches in the back that overlook the square.
Optimal light, sharpness and color
A nice photo. I like it.
Have a good day.
Kind regards.
Luis.

Good evening Jean,
This was a relatively not-crowded scene in this place.b At the time we were there it was much, much more crowded...
Managed well with the outside light on the far background, and the relative dark part within the arcade, and people along side's.
My best regards,
Ike

I hated to visit this museum, at first because the big line and the time I lost on it, after that it was prohibited to take photos inside. I remember well this part of the building. nice view.
